After the jam session, the entire group headed down to the restaurant. Just like always, wine and beer and hard liquor flowed freely.

Alcohol had never been one of Carina’s vices. Maybe she’d started with the wrong thing—tequila—but she hadn’t liked it, and by the time she might have had a palate sophisticated enough to appreciate a nice glass of cabernet, she was popping pills, chasing them with whatever shitty drink was nearby.

Now that she was sober, she still felt the cravings for the pills—that would never go away—but she’d never felt much of a desire to join in the drinking.

Still, her sponsor had warned her, if it got to be too much, remove herself from the situation. Or better yet, don’t get into the situation in the first place.

Luckily, she’d discovered that this group of rockers rarely got sloppy, and no one pushed her into trying a drink. Parker had offered her a beer early on, she said she didn’t drink, end of story. She hadn’t even had to get into her backstory.

Cash had snagged a seat next to Carina; in the past, they’d sat at opposite ends of the table whenever the entire band got together like this. She used to throw covert glances down the length of the table—now she just had to turn slightly to the side and smile brightly at him.

He grinned back and leaned forward, draping his arm across the back of her chair as he kissed her temple. Her smile probably spread from ear to ear.

He shrugged. “I’m good.”

Swoon.

“Uh-oh, Cash, looks like you are finally getting the spotlight,” Maria noted.

Riley sat in a booster seat between Carina and Maria; Maria handed her phone to Carina over her daughter’s head.

Carina stared down at the picture on the screen: she was seated on the sofa up on the third floor, and Cash was leaning over her, appearing to be whispering something in her ear. She had a secret little smile on her face and her cheeks were pink.

Pretty easy to read into that pic. Oh, and by the way, yes, it was exactly what the image implied. Cash had been flirting with her. “I’ve never really thought much about that song ‘Desire’ before,” he’d whispered. “But now all I can think about is you. Being alone with you. Getting naked with you.”

From the angle of the shot, it had been taken by someone in the crowd that had gathered while the band had played their jam session.

“There are more,” Maria said. “Keep scrolling.”

Maria was right. There was an entire collection of shots of her and Cash, smiling, touching, giving each other adoring looks; someone had caught the moment Cash strode over and pressed a kiss to her lips before pulling her off the sofa so they could head down to the restaurant.

“These pictures weren’t even taken an hour ago,” she said, still staring.

“And look how
